South African-born Chef Shane Vermaak is a passionate culinary professional known for his philosophy of simplicity and his celebration of natural flavours. A graduate of the HTA School for Culinary Arts in Johannesburg, Shane has honed his skills across a diverse range of kitchens – from large-scale commercial catering to acclaimed fine dining establishments.
His career has taken him across South Africa and the United States, culminating in his current role as Head Chef at the popular Majuba Bistro in Albany, Western Australia. Prior to relocating, Shane served as Sous Chef at the prestigious Saxon Hotel, Villas and Spa in Johannesburg, where he played a key role in the development of award-winning, innovative menus, particularly in plant-based cuisine.
For Shane, being a chef goes beyond the kitchen—it’s about the people, the constant learning, and the creative freedom the culinary world offers. His approach is grounded in sharing knowledge, exploring new frontiers, and enriching the dining experience for every guest.
